Confused about which Boiler is for you? Maybe you're on a budget? High hot water demand? Should I change to a combi?.... There are more factors than you think in selecting the right boiler, it's not just about the brand or model biased reviewers have chosen either!
So what are the important factors to consider in finding you a fantastic boiler? For starters we want to know the following (I'll tell you why after...)
Budget is obviously one of the most important factors, you want the best boiler for your money. The top three premium brands are really Vaillant, Worcester Bosch and Viessmann, which is what we usually get asked for first, there are however some more affordable brands which are equally as good and come with 10 year warranties for parts and labour...
If installed correctly and well maintained (serviced annually), most modern boilers will last you a long time, with 12 years being the current average to beat. We are passionate about boilers (sad I know!) and that means you will benefit from our experience and knowledge. We will make recommendations based on your requirements and explain why with a full breakdown of what we have recommended and what benefits it brings.
Number of bathrooms and people is important when we think about your hot water demand. Modern boilers can comfortably heat a good number of rads before we look to increase the Kw power, however how much hot water you need is an important factor.
Is there a large hot water cylinder to heat up which is being used up quickly and a boiler with a bit more oompf is required? Maybe a combination boiler has to heat water for two bathrooms at once. In this case we need a boiler that can heat suitable litres of water a minute to temperature to satisfy more than one shower whilst the person downstairs is trying to wash up the breakfast bowls!! Too small and you will get a drop in temperature = cold shower time! too large and you wont get the fuel economy out of the boiler (FACT: Boilers are more cost effective when they are running at near capacity and condensing)
The location of the boiler is also very important, now there are compact boilers available that will fit in a kitchen cupboard, but we also have to consider factors like how close a flue maybe to an opening (for reference the minimum distance allowed is 300mm) and all modern condensing boilers have an additional pipe in plastic to drain away the acidic water produced in the heating process, this has to go into a drain so this is another consideration.
Also the actual distance of the boiler from the Gas meter, this is very important as we need to guarantee enough gas pressure to the boiler for it to burn effectively and not produce any of those nasty CO (Carbon Monoxide) gases. Basically the smaller the pipe and longer the distance, the more pressure it will lose by the time it arrives at the boiler, so if we upgrade to a larger boiler, it maybe that your gas pipe needs updating too...
Controls are now a hot topic too and our customers are really split into two camps, those who want the most high tech, learning smart controls, that can be used by phone and tablet to control the system, and those who want the simple life with a straightforward programmer and room stat. It's up to you, either way we'll make sure your system works for you.
